Microsoft Power BI Alternatives 2021

Here are Competitors and Alternatives to Microsoft Power BI 2021

  • Tableau Desktop.
  • Qlik Sense.
  • SAP BusinessObjects BI Suite.
  • Sisense.
  • Microstrategy.
  • TIBCO Spotfire.
  • IBM Cognos Analytics.
  • Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition.

I evaluated 4 BI tools for Directive’s team of search marketing consultants to use for analysis and visualizations. Here are my findings:

  • Sisense: Better for dashboards and not great for individual reporting. No native integrations to Google Ads, Analytics, or Search Console. High learning curve. Expensive. 4th place.
  • Power BI: Good tool, but lacks many of the native connections that GDS and TB have. Not user-friendly and obvious. High learning curve. $9 a user makes it very accessible. 3rd place.
  • Tableau: Feels the best of all the tools. Fast, intuitive, and has good native connections. The problem is that data from Google Ads connection often comes out wrong and no support to fix. $75 a person makes it tough for it not being perfect. Average learning curve. 2nd place.
  • Google Data Studio: Feels somewhat cheap, but it’s fast and the data connections are flawless. The power doesn’t feel like it’s there (compared to Power BI or Tableau) but the simplicity and ease of use lead me to believe it will have the highest adoption rate in the org. At the price of…FREE it’s hard to beat. 1st place.
